Brief Description: Back riveted the stiffeners to the rudder
I reviewed a number of posts in the Van's forum about the back riveting of the stiffeners. The suggestion was to set the first two rivets on each stiffener first at the trailing edge, turn the rudder around and do the same on the other side so that it is easier to rivet. It made sense and was easier as the more stiffeners that were completely riveted, the stiffer the rudder got.
Set the flush rivets in place with masking tape and away I went. Very easy to back rivet. Unfortunately I was moving with such a good rythym, I miscalculated where the back plate was and tried to set a rivet...creased the skin slightly...
Lesson learned....slow down and make sure that the back plate is there before you squeeze that trigger!
First 2 rivets only for both sides a the trailing edge.
